How do you breed Cherry Barbs?

I just wanted to help Cherry Barbs survive for a long time coz it's almost extinct in the wild.
Answers:
had 4 cherry barbs, 3 females and 1 male. I had them for about 6 months and then the male turned very bright red. Luckily I read books before about breeding and found out they were going to mate so I put all four of them in my 10 gallon tank that was planted thickly with Cabomba. I put them in there and almost instantly they were laying eggs. I stayed up till 12:30 AM to watch the male twist and dance for and with the females. It was exciting to watch the male chase the females through the thick plants, and watching the eggs fall on the leaves. Each female laid about 100 - 150 eggs. so all u have to is just get one male and 3 or more girls he will get excited!

I think the key is planning ahead. You need to have several things ready before you put the fish together in a breeding tank:

1. enough room to raise the fry, to me that means a 20 long or 30 gallon tank. Not only the space, but ready for the fry, that includes proper filtration of a well seasoned sponge filter.
2. the right foods available. Infusoria, microworms, brine shrimp eggs all should be ready to feed.

3. well conditioned breeders. You should keep them at the proper temperature and feed them tons of variety and tons of live or frozen foods for a few weeks before trying to spawn them.

4. a properly set up breeding tank with something like marbles on the bottom and plenty of fine leafed plants i the tank.

5. most importantly... commitment. You will need to feed they fry 3-4 times a day and clean the excess from the tank after each feeding as well as do a 40-50% water change each day. If your tap water is wildly unsuitable for them, that means a lot of work getting the water correct each day, but since they aren't picky that would be very unusual.

They aren't hard to breed, just take your time and prepare everything before you put them together and you can be successful. If you have any other questions please feel free to drop me an email.
