How do guppies mate?

i have 6 females and 3 males, i have seen one male chasing this pregnant guppy everywhere. he gets really up close to her and other females and does this little dance whilst stretchng and spreading out all of its fins and tails.
how do they mate? because i have several pregnant fish but never have seen them being 'attatched' to each other.

all answers appreciated
thanks

The male introduces sperm packets into the females vent directly through his gonopodium, the specially adapted ventral fin. The contact is very quick and you have probably seen it without knowing it.. If you watch closely you will see the gonopodium swing forward just before contact. Also, the female can actually store sperm from previous matings, so she need not be impregnated every time after bearing fry. If you are curious about this aspect of the sex lives of Guppies, try leaving the female separated after she has her fry. There are several good books about live bearer culture that are not at all expensive, and are much more informative and accurate than the information on the net.------Enjoy your pets, good luck.----PeeTee
I have no idea I have fish and they have babies so I try not to question the bird and the bees of the situation.
the male fish will swim in front of the female and "dance" backwards past her. He is releasing his sperm into the water in front of her. Her eggs get fertilized this way. I bought a book on fish. Very interesting! Also tells how to tell the sex of certain breeds. For instance, guppies: females are the plane looking guppies and Males are the colorful guppies. They use their colors to attract a mate.
Frequently and very, very quickly.

The normal - the male deposits sperm directly into/very close to the female with its tiny 'penis'. It really is very quick though, you've probably seen them doing it when rubbing together but not noticed.
What you described, is them mating...

In non live bearers, the female lays the eggs and then the male sprinkles the sperm onto/in the eggs.

But in since guppies are live bearers, The male is releasing the sperm in the water very close to her, thus fertilizing the eggs inside of her...

Good Luck

Guppies are liverbearers, that means that they give birth to there young like a dog or a cat would. His chasing and flaring of his fins is his way of making himself look good to that female.Other wise know as courting.
When the female is ready the male guppy will insert his gonopodium (thick anal fin) into the female and release his sperm. This will happens very quickly. So you may have seen it, but did not realize it.
A female will hold the roe from one male for up to five batches of young. If the temp. in the tank is 80 degrees F the gestation period will be about 21 to 28 days. At which time she will give birth to her first batch of young. After 21 to 28 days she will give birth again. This will happen about 3 more times.
You didn't say weather or not your tank had any plants in the tank. Since guppies are know for eating their young. You should plant the tank with java moss or some hornwort. If your tank is not planted this could be why you have not seen any young yet.
