How do i get rid of fish tank scratches?

i recently got a second hand fishtank for free and it has lots of surface scratches on the inside of it, i was wondering is there a way that i can get rid of these scratches? and is there a way that it will not be toxic to the fish that i put in there?
Answers:
Glass tank? Do nothing;it won't help.Besides, the glass could crack if the scratch(es) is(are) deep. If acrylic,(which I doubt it is,) you could get some stuff that is available in fish supply catalogs or stores. It generally does not pay to bother.
Great idea buy a new tank, should get rid of pretty much all the scratches... Anything you use on the inside of the tank to clear the scratches, will kill the fish.
Actually, contrary to the above answer, there are non-toxic scratch buffing kits that will take the scratches out of acrylic aquariums. If your aquarium is glass, however, there are no buffing kits that will take scratches out.
You'll find that with small surface scratches, the water will conceal much of the damage in a glass tank.

Try this scratch removal kit for acrylics, it worked wonders on my second hand aquarium.

OK i am going to point this out .. water weighs alot really take 10 gallons of water it weighs around 80 or so pounds. the amount of pressure that water places against glass is tremendous if there are scratches on the inside of the tank you could be looking for trouble, each scratch is a weak point in that glass, and if a scratch goes the whole way across the glass this is the same thing that a glass cutter does , making it even weaker. unless this glass is very thick like on a aqua-pro tank you have a time bomb on your hands .. now that being said . most of the time , when a tank is full you probably wont see the scratches, because of water refraction of light. some deeper ones will be noticed. personally i would not use the tank , unless you can take it outside , and fill it for a week to test the integrity of the tank , even then it is a gamble to use it .. walmart sells whole 10 gallon tank kits for around 40 bucks..
At some point, during the last few months, I managed to scratch the glass on the interior of our aquarium. It must have happened when I was cleaning algae off the glass..
