How do i stop!?!?!?

Hi all!

i have 2 catfish, 2 tetras and 3 platys

my catfish have eaten all the algae so i decided to supplement their diet with one of those algae tablets.

unfortunatley, after about 2mins of the tablet in the tank, my crazy food obsessed platys found it and started eating it! the tetras joined in (i just fed them!!) and the poor catfish could harldy get a bite in. it tried, but eventually gave up :-( the other catfish didnt even get a look at the thing!!

is there a way to stop my other fish from getting to the catfish food, or am i an idiot for even trying??? :-P

how can i know if my catfish are eating enough??

thanks guys!

(yes i know platys like algae and plants!)
Answers:
if the catfish arent dying or sick, then they are probably eating enough.

however, if you want to feed them the algae tablets, you can hide them in areas where the other fish wont go.. for example, in a shell or under the edge of a rock. Once the catfish find the tablets, they usually wont let other fish near them (they will chase them away)
.
Cat,s mainly feed at night, so wait till about half hour after the lights have been turned out and the tank has been in darkness then put the tablets in.
Mine do the same thing. Drop in some flake food then put in a couple of algae pellets. Or place some pellets under a rock where the catfish hang out Failing that your catfish will also love some zucchini slices, tie it with a rubber band to a rock and drop it in, in the morning, they will eat the white flesh. Remove it at night so it doesn't rot.
Drop in a tablet or two after the lights in the room and tank are out for the night, besides what you feed them during the day. Use some other sinking pellets and some flake food, too. The cat fish will get enough from whatever food falls to the bottom if you have some gravel in which they can scavenge for dropped food particles.
feed your catfish something else. something that platys and tetras hate! maybe your catfish is pregnant...
I agree with the others from personal experience, hide the pellets just after the lights go out, your other fish will be to busy finding somewhere safe for the night and the catfish won't let the m near it once they found it. Catfish also like green food and i've found that mine just love cucumbers! slice them up and put them in, you might have to anchor them down as they float and watch the catfish go straight for them they love it and it helps keep them healthy and grow quicker. The fish will look but they not that interested in them.
Hope this helps mate x
catfish are nocternal so wait until bedtime to feed the algae disks. You can also put it in their "cave". They usually have some area of the tank that they call home and protect, this is a sure way to make sure he gets his supper!!
i dnon't how helpful my advice would be but what i did was buy a feeder ring so that way i could keep the other fish from going after other fishes meals.
