How long is a goldfish's memory?

i know this is a vague memory question...but some people claim they can't remember ANYTHING past 10 seconds. i know Conditioning plays a big role, but yeah.
Answers:
They have a short term memory of about 10 seconds, but a long term memory that is the same as a humans. A short term memory is like waving your hand once in front of the fish. It will remember the action for a short time, but because the action isn't very significant to its life, it will forget about it.

A long term memory is like feeding the goldfish in the same side of the tank every day. It will begin to notice a pattern, and when it is hungry, it will go to that side of the tank.
About ten seconds.
Obviously there are a few than can remember more, but not past 10 seconds is average.
i believe it is 6 minutes
ever watch mythbusters, on discovery channel? they actually tried an experiment, about this exact issue, and guess what? a bag of hammers has more of a memory!
okay see people, having a ten second memory does not make any sense whatso ever. now they may be dumb, but some things get engrained int thier minds. for example, every time before i feed my fish i turn on the light in their tank, so now, if i turn on the light for some reason other than feeding them, the swim to the top thinking they are going to get fed... that is more than 10 seconds
from what i see form my goldfish, i think they have long term memory. for example once i slammed the hinge door on accident and it scared my fish. it learned not to go there anymore because it thought that i would slamm it again. another example of long term memoery, my goldfsh like other goldfish loves to eat even though they are full, so they come to get more food (because they are greedy) and when i raise up the food container they know its food and trys to swim up to me. also when i put my finger or hand in the tank they come to me thinking i have food and brush up against my hand/finger. (yeah i know it bad for them because it takes off their slime coat, but oh well, they like it i like it and i love them) i also read somewhere that they tested a goldfish for hearing and recognizing their owners. there was a blind goldfish and when the sound waves of its owner was heard, it swam uip to the glass to greet his owner, when it didnt to strangers. i dont know why people sya goldfish are stupid, they have 3 second memory, they die fast! its alll fake! (ps goldfish with proper care like ALLL other fish live up to 20 years at MINIMUM)
I no this answer they have a thinking span of 2 sec
FishyFishy is correct!
Like humans, fish have both short and long term memories.
What gets stored in each of these depends entirely on the action. Is it beneficial to the fish or was it of no importance? The bulk of this relates to the fish's most important requirement - FOOD!
Fish usually remember (for a long time) whereabouts they get fed (spacial awareness), and who feeds them (facial recognition).
Short term memory? I reckon it could probably be measured in milliseconds!

Sorry... what was the question again?
