I will be taking my aquarium down this weekend as I no longer have time to maintain it (I have found a good home for my fish). There is a fair amount of algae in the tank - I can scrape it off the sides of the tank easily enough, but I'm not sure how to remove it from the various decorations, etc., that aren't flat enough to scrape. Any suggestions?

Make a mixture of about 10% bleach and 90% water. Let the decorations soak in it for a bit - you will see the algae go away - then rinse very well and allow to fully dry before returning it to the aquarium - if it dries fully then there are no traces of bleach and you have a very clean decoration!
Use a sponge and hot water and scrub it always works :D
hope this helps
I sock them in bleach water then re-sock them in clean water with chorine remover in it then let them air dry! I do it all the time and never had a problem. They look brand new after!! You only have to soak them in bleach water for like 20 min!! Good luck
Use a alage sponge/pad, Get one at ur locall pet shop and Leave the deco to steep in boiling water then scrub the deco with hot watter with the alge sponge/pad
you could soak them in a bucket of water and bleech. If you intend using them again in a fish tank the best way is to use milton baby bottle cleaner its a lot safer than bleech and it will rinse off eaiser.
I had asked a lady at a pet store once how they kept their decorations so clean. She said that she bleached them for about 20-30 minutes then soaked them in regular water for a few hours, rinsed them, soaked them in regular water again for a couple hours, and continued this process for 24-48 hours. After that amount of time the bleach will come off so it won't be toxic to the fish and the smell goes away. I had always thought that using bleach was a big no-no, but she said it's fine as long as you get the residue off the decorations before you put them back in the tank. The decorations are like new again!
Good luck!
