How can I take care of a fish?

I'm thinking of buying a golden fish (I don't know any king of fish) so how can I take care of it. When to eat and how often should I change the tank..I want to know everything before I buy coz I don't want it to die? Can anyone give me any details?

Giv'em plenty of water to drink and "T" bone steak, they love "T" bone!!!
most pet stores are pretty helpful at answering these questions.. it varies by fish - generally they are fed once a day - change the water fully once a month. i suggest you stay away from betas - although they are resilient - they are actually tropical and need warm water and are carnivorous .. most people don't know and pet stores do not take care of them properly either

A goldfish is a wonderful pet for someone who really shows concern to anything and everything. First, you should ask yourself if you are responsible enough to take care of a goldfish(which I'm sure you are cause your asking this question). You should also buy a glass bowl-like tank. Kinda like a tank for goldfish, but I'd prefer water tanks with oxygen(like the one with a machine that gives the fish oxygen cause goldfish are not like fighting fish that don't need oxygen cause goldfish need oxygen). If the tank is kinda big, change it once a month but if its kinda small, change it 3 times a month. Goldfish, in my opinion, eat the same time we eat (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Its not that hard to keep a simple fish like a goldfish. Good luck!:-)
you can take of a fish by doing this:
feeding it regularly.
changing the water regularly
All the details you are looking for will never magically appear in a yahoo post, but you will find them in a good book. This should be your first purchase, before getting any fish or tank.

Things worth knowing before you buy a fish:

Goldfish grow very large and are very messy. They can live for decades. They do NOT belong in bowls. Strange as it sounds, goldfish bowls kill goldfish.

You should have real, filtered tank, even for one goldfish, preferably of 20 gallons or larger.

You should be willing to do some aquarium care every week. Typically this will be a partial water change (about 25% of the water, usually with a hose and bucket), a vacuuming of the gravel while you do this, and scraping of algae.

Now, about that book...
I don't reccomend getting a gold fish as your first fish. Go with something cleaner, easier to care for. I reccomend the Platy. They are fun to watch, come in lots of colors, and are simple to care for. I feed my tanks a little bit twice a day. The water changes depends on the size of your tank if the tank is 10 gallons or less i reccomend cleaning it once a week.
Don't forget to purchace a filter! These are very important investments, because they make your fish happier and help to reduce your ammount of cleaning.
Keep your tank out of direct sunlight! In a small tank this WILL lead to algae problems
The people at your pet place should be able to help you with the specifics.
