How can I stop my pond goldfish from breeding? I have 40 new babies from last year. Pond is getting crowded.
Answers:
Hi ,have you ever used Craigslist.com , it's the largest free classified sight in the world.somebody in your neighborhood wants those fish , i guarantee it!
go fishing. sell them. get another pet fish (oscar, piranha) and feed them to that pet.
just leave the babies in the pond things will sort themselves out naturally
heck take advantage of it. since you have a pond (LUCKY) scoop them out and put some where you plant your flowers. oh look instant fertilizer.
or just give them to a pet store.
First off, congrats on having a healthy pond
second---exchange them, at a 5-1 ratio, at a pet store for new goldfish. You need new genetic material in there.
Yeah, they can be sold as bait, or feeder fish, whatever. But there is no way to keep them from breeding. They are happy. You should be proud. Nice problem to have
Fish, especially gold fish, grow to the space they have. as your pond gets more populated they will stop reproducing as much and they will also stop growing as big. Your fish will take care of their own needs. Gold fish also eat their own young. This is just another way they will take care of the over population themselves. You can either not worry about it and let them handle it, or as someone else suggested maybe you could sell them as other pond fish to people looking for pond fish.
Good luck
Christy
